Best way to increase calories?

HELP! Trying to increase calories the right way! I’m not certain why you want to increase your calories to 1800 to 2000 calories. That seems to be too much for you for weight loss. You may have more luck keeping around 1350 calories for weight loss. Please keep in mind that if you have medical conditions that require a certain diet or calorie level per your medical team, please follow it. Cutting 500 calories per day through diet and exercise will help you to lose 1 pound per week. But don’t go below 1200 calories per day without medical supervision. Don’t skip meals and have balanced meals. I don’t recommend the meal plan that you have listed. Try the healthy plate in which one-half of the plate is non-starchy veggies, one-quarter of the plate is lean protein and the other quarter of the plate is starch. Fruit and low fat/nonfat dairy is outside the plate. Prepare your food in a healthy manner like baking, broiling and steaming. Don’t drink your calories and limit/avoid concentrated sweets. You might also benefit from increasing your aerobic activity to 60 minutes most days of the...

Can too many peanuts hurt you?

Is too much peanuts bad? Can we have too much of even a good thing? The answer is yes. Moderation is key. While peanuts are mono-unsaturated fat which is heart healthy, they’re high in calories. Ten peanuts equal about 45 calories. If we consume too many calories, we can gain weight, which can potentially cause us health problems. So enjoy them but monitor portion...

Hate Healthy Food?

How can I eat healthier if I hate healthy food? I’m actually hearing you say that you like some healthy foods. That’s a positive! Spinach, grapes and apples are great choices. I’m also fine with potato and corn, as long as they only represent one-quarter of the plate. So you do have a bit of a starting point there. I would explore other fruits and vegetables and there are a lot of them. So be adventurous and try some new ones. You just might like them. I also have an idea for you on food preparation. You say that you only like fried chicken. So, why not look for ways to create that taste in a healthier manner? For example, try dipping your chicken in water or low fat buttermilk, coat it with crushed corn flakes, and then bake it. It will taste like fried chicken, but be better for you. It’s yummy! If you don’t like water, why not look for other low calorie beverages. Light lemonade, crystal light, tea and sparkling water (lemon, lime, berry, etc.) taste great. You can also squeeze lemon or lime into flat water for a different taste. Just look to make small changes or additions to your diet. The reality is that everything that we put in our mouths affects our bodies one way or the other. The more nutritious foods that we eat the better off we’ll be. But a splurge every now and then is...

Dare To Dream

From early childhood I’ve always been a creative person. Among many things I enjoyed, and still do, is singing and acting in plays. But one of my most favorite things was, and is, writing. I wrote my first play when I was in 4th grade. It was a holiday play and not only was I the author, I was the star. Why not? I performed it for my class and I have this wonderful memory of my father building a chimney for me that I could climb through as part of my set. I went on to write several more plays, culminating in my crowning stage achievement with my 7th grade play, “Rocky and the Boys.” It was a bank robbery caper. And once again, I gave myself the starring role. I played Rocky. And as he always did, my father built the set which included a bank teller station. My mother provided the props and sat in the cafeteria and applauded while we put the play on in front of the entire 7th grade class. It was awesome! While this was my last play that I wrote, I acted and sang in others. And I never stopped writing. So many years later, in 2012, I wrote my first book FAST FOOD VINDICATION. It was hard work but very rewarding. This nutrition-based book is something that I’m quite proud of. And I believe that my parents would have been as well. Unfortunately, neither lived to read it. Last week I found out that FAST FOOD VINDICATION won two different awards for best nutrition book of the year. I’m absolutely...
